Apple reportedly plans to include 8K video recording capabilities in its upcoming iPhone 17 series. This move would align the iPhone with many Android phones that already offer this feature.
iPhone 17 Rumors
Currently, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models can record 4K video at up to 60fps, while the Pro and Pro Max versions can reach 120fps. According to sources, Apple had considered incorporating 8K recording into the iPhone 16 lineup.
However, limitations with the telephoto sensor, which has a 12MP resolution, prevented its implementation. Recording in 8K requires a sensor with approximately 35MP resolution.

Apple’s concern was that users would not be able to switch between all cameras while recording in 8K if the telephoto lens did not support it. Unlike Apple, some Android manufacturers prioritize offering the highest possible recording resolution for each camera sensor.
The anticipated inclusion of 8K video recording in the iPhone 17 series suggests that Apple intends to upgrade the telephoto sensor to a higher resolution. This upgrade would ensure a consistent 8K recording experience across all cameras.
