Nintendo has just taken the wraps off the Nintendo Switch 2, its next-generation gaming handheld console and successor to the Nintendo Switch. The second-generation console boasts a larger and improved display and new features like GameChat and GameShare.

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch display with a 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. This is a drastic upgrade from its predecessor’s 720p display. Moreover, the Switch 2 supports up to 4K resolution and HDR mode while you’re playing on a TV and docked.

Nintendo also highlighted a new button on the Joy-Con 2 – the C button, which is used to launch its new GameChat feature. The new feature allows you to talk to your friends while you play. It also lets you stream your games and even show your face while you play with the new Nintendo Switch 2 Camera.

The camera feature will also be added in games like Super Mario Party, so you can see your friends’ reactions while you play.

Until March 31, 2026, the GameChat feature will not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership. After the Open-Access Period, you will need a membership to use the feature.

Speaking of the Joy-Con 2, it will now connect to the Switch 2 via magnets and comes with mouse controls, which you can use for games like Sid Meier’s Civilization VII and more.

The company shared that the upcoming console will be compatible with Nintendo Switch games and will come with a GameShare feature. GameShare lets you play with your friends locally on other systems like other Switch 2, Switch, and Switch Lite or online with other Switch 2 users.

During the Nintendo Direct, the company revealed various games launching with the Nintendo Switch 2, including:

  • Mario Kart World
  • Donkey Kong Bananza
  • Kirby Air Ride
  • Borderlands 4
  • The Duskbloods

Moreover, there will be Switch 2 versions of the games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These versions will come with new features and will have an upgrade pack for you to enjoy said new features.
