OmniVision introduced the OmniVision OV50X, its latest smartphone lens designed for professional videographers and photographers. It boasts the highest dynamic range in the industry today and a ‘movie-grade’ video recording.
OmniVision OV50X
The OmniVision OV50X is a 1-inch 50MP camera that supports 1.6µm pixels before binning and is built on the company’s PureCel Plus-S stacked-die technology. It also does 4-in-1 binning to deliver a 12.5MP output resolution at 180fps. Moreover, it does a three-channel HDR at 60fps.
The new sensor is also said to offer a dynamic range close to 110dB, thanks to its TheiaCel design. The design first made its debut on the company’s sensor for the automotive industry.

It offers 8K video recording with dual analog gain (DAG) HDR. DAG HDR is a one-frame HDR technology that applies high gain to boost detail in shadows and low gain to preserve detail in highlights.
The new OmniVision lens supports in-sensor zoom for added flexibility and 100% Quad Phase Detection (QPD) autofocus.

The OmniVision OV50X is expected to go into mass production by Q3 2025, but it is currently being sampled by phone manufacturers. It wasn’t announced which phones will first feature the lens, but it is expected to be featured in a device by the end of the year.
