realme is set to expand the realme 14 Series 5G in the Philippines by introducing the realme 14 5G and realme 14T 5G. The duo is said to push performance beyond limits with massive batteries, formidable chipsets, and massive cooling areas.

We were given the opportunity to test out the realme 14 5G ahead of the launch. Here are my initial impressions on a device that is said to be built to address issues gamers like lag, battery drain, and overheating.

Unboxing Experience

We previously unboxed the exclusive gift set that included the realme 14 5G and TechLife G1 headphones.

The realme 14 5G has, thankfully, a pretty normal realme unboxing complete with the iconic yellow box and complete inclusions. Yes, I’m talking about a silicon case, a charging adapter, and a cable.

You can watch our full unboxing below:

Hands-on Experience

The realme 14 5G is built around a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED panel with up to 1500Hz touch sampling. Around the back is a Mecha Design that’s most featured in the Mecha Silver colorway, which has an edgy, futuristic aesthetic and really has a gamer vibe. That said, though, it has orange accents on the back and on the power button for a pop of color.

If this cool gamer aesthetic isn’t for you, the realme 14 5G also has the more discreet Storm Titanium and the Limited Edition Warrior Pink colorways. Now, I generally don’t like the classic gamer design, but I think realme did a good job making it the Mecha Silver option look cool.

However, it is quite the fingerprint magnet because of its shiny finish. This is easily solved by slapping on the included silicon case, but I preferred using it bare despite the fingerprints everywhere.

The device also features a Victory Halo Light found in the camera module. The light offers a means to see things like notifications, charging, alarms, and even in-game events from the back. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Honor of Kings (HoK), and PUBG: Mobile are the games that use the Victory Halo lights. The LED breathes when you enter your game and will quickly flash yung get kills in MLBB and HoK.

The realme 14 5G is the first device to be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset. This is coupled with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. If you need more RAM, the device also has Dynamic RAM of up to 14GB, which it borrows from its storage.

The combination of the new chipset, high RAM offering, and decent storage offered a pretty smooth experience, at least when it comes to my initial experience.

Camera

The realme 14 5G features a dual rear camera comprised of a 50MP main and a 2MP depth snapper. This, of course, means that you only really use one camera for everything, with the secondary assisting in portrait shots.

Initial shots with the 50MP are decent, but the sensor performs best in brighter environments. Despite being a lone snapper, the depth sensor offers pretty good portrait shots, especially if you like taking shots of toys and other knick-knacks. Night shots are alright, but prone to motion blur and lights flaring out.

Here are some samples:

The 16MP front snapper delivers good photos. Not the best, but good enough for social media updates and posting.

The realme 14 5G also comes with AI features for photo editing, but I’ll get to those in our full review.

Gaming Experience

Based on my initial experience, the strength of the realme 14 5G really is performance. I’ve talked about the chipset and memory configuration, and you feel this the most when playing. Games feel pretty smooth despite a mid-range chipset onboard.

The device comes with a slew of technologies to aid in gaming, dubbed GT Boost. Among these features include AI Motion Control, AI Ultra Touch, Touch Optimization, and GT Mode. GT Boost offers quite a complex level of software customization as far as performance goes, on top of the already snappy experience from the hardware.

Speaking of hardware, I can’t forget the massive 6000mAh battery and its support for 45W SUPERVOOC Charge. The combination of which allows you to have longer gameplay sessions without worrying about plugging the device in.

Initial Verdict

My initial experience with the realme 14 5G has me excited to keep using the phone, especially when I just want to play on my phone. It is early, but I can already say that the device exceeds my expectations when handling games.

The solid chipset, a smooth and vibrant display, a large battery, and a slew of AI features that help improve the gaming experience is a combination of hardware and software that you’d want to see in a smartphone that is said to be built for gaming. Of course, it also means you get a reliable daily driver.
