TikTok has received a second 75-day extension from the US to comply with a law requiring its US operations to be sold or face a ban. President Trump announced the extension on Truth Social, stating his desire to avoid a “dark” future for the popular app and expressing hope for a deal with TikTok and China.
TikTok’s US Band Delayed Again
TikTok, boasting over 170 million US users, faces a ban under a bipartisan law citing national security concerns. ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese owner, acknowledged ongoing discussions but stated no agreement has been finalized, noting that any deal requires Chinese regulatory approval.

The US administration is actively seeking an American buyer for the popular app. A potential deal reportedly collapsed after the US announced new tariffs on China. China has opposed such forced sales.
Several potential buyers have emerged, including Amazon, billionaire Frank McCourt with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Microsoft, Blackstone, Andreessen Horowitz, and Perplexity AI. President Trump mentioned four interested groups. Vice President JD Vance is leading the buyer search.
Trump also suggested a potential trade-off: Chinese approval of the app’s sale in exchange for US tariff relief. He defended the tariffs as a vital national security tool. Negotiations remain ongoing as the deadline looms.
