Intel has announced that it will build a large-scale chipset production plant in New Albany, Ohio with an initial investment valued at over USD 20 billion.
Construction is said to start later this year with aims to open in 2025. Upon finishing, the plant will be the largest semiconductor project in the world.
The site covers over 400 hectares of land and accommodates eight chip factories or fabs. In addition to the fabs, the site will also support operations and other Intel partner ecosystems.
The site is estimated to bring 3,000 Intel jobs as well as 7,000 more construction jobs and long-term opportunities that will help the local economy.
Additionally, the company has pledged an additional USD 100 million to partner with local Ohio educational institutions to help develop local talent as well as bolster research programs in the region.
