During the annual shareholders meeting of Samsung, the company Vice Chairman and CEO Jong-Hee Han issued an official apology over the Game Optimizing Service (GOS) app throttling.
He mentioned that the company will “listen to customers more closely to prevent such an issue from happening again”. He added that it did not appreciate the concerns from the customers.
This comes after it was found that the Samsung Game Optimizing Service throttled the performance of up to 10,000 apps instead of optimizing the device’s performance during gaming as intended. The service is pre-installed on the latest Galaxy S smartphones and tablets in addition to older flagship devices.
To top it all off, there was no option to disable GOS by default and even whitelisted benchmarking apps like Geekbench from said throttling. This forced Geekbench to ban the last four Galaxy S series as well as the Galaxy Tab S8 series.
Samsung is releasing a software update in South Korea for the latest Galaxy S22 series to prevent CPU and GPU performance limitations.
