Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition

There is no doubt that Huawei is killing it when it comes to their line-up of smartwatches. From the first Huawei Watch to their latest Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, it is pretty clear that they have established a brand that sells premium smartwatches.

I guess it is safe to say what smartwatches below to a niche industry. It also has a dichotomy of consumers: those who buy it for style, and another group who would buy one for its function. As a reviewer, I will try to represent both, and give you my thoughts about the style and function that the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro offers.

Let’s start off with style, where I’ll talk about the watch’s overall design; and then I’ll move on to talking about its functions. I will later tie everything up with my verdict. So, if you are somehow concerned about a specific part of my review, you can refer to the table of contents above.

Style

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro has a new look and feel thanks to its minimalist design. According to Huawei, the new watch uses luxury-grade polishing, which is hard and takes a long time to process for a more premium design. The company also made sure that its overall design is subtly different from all smartwatches of the series. The lug is now enclosed compared to the previous generation’s more exposed design. The bezel’s design is somewhat retained except for the fact that it does not have numerical markers on it. Without the lush genuine leather band, the GT 3 Pro exudes a more “masculine” look, but retains a classic design for everyone to use.

One of the Watch GT 3’s best features is its 1.43-inch AMOLED colour display. You’ll be glancing on and navigating through this display most of the time. Among the other smartwatches I’ve used in the past, this watch has the biggest display. It has a screen real estate of 466×466, and features sapphire glass protection. This is comparable to diamond in terms of durability.

Interestingly, its sensors are also protected with sapphire glass. This assures two important things: protection and better light penetration for a more accurate heart-rate monitoring. Kudos to Huawei for thinking a lot about this implementation that ultimately helps it function well. I’ll get to the ‘function’ part later.

Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro also comes with a genuine leather straps that is very comfortable to wear. It is made of European calfskin, and carefully prepared to make it look elegant on my wrists. The gray color of the leather band on the Huawei GT 3 Pro surprisingly matches the color of the Titanium bezel and lugs.

Crown and Buttons

The traditional crown on watches has been replaced with a 3D rotating crown. Apart from the watch’s display, this is the part that you will likely use very often. You’ll it to navigate and switch through its many functions. The crown features tactile feedback, which gives you a sense and control when navigating through its HarmonyOS UI.

Another new part in the Watch GT 3 Pro is the ECG button. Underneath it is an electrode technology with titanium matte coating that will allow the watch to measure ECG or your heart’s electrical activity data anytime.

Function

Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition is truly a stylish and elegant-looking smartwatch. It combines and retains everything that Huawei learned from the past iterations of the series, and introduces design features that will further expand its functional capabilities.

At this point, let me talk about the functions that are proven to be very useful while using this watch. However, allow me to put you into my lifestyle perspective that might somehow give you a sense of relatability and (maybe) appreciate (or not appreciate) the watch’s features.

Most Used Functions

I am not your typical sporty guy. I prefer to stay at home, but I try to stay fit as much as possible, attend boxing sessions at home with a boxing coach, go to golf driving range to practice my swings once a week., and exercise through VR sessions using Oculus Quest 2.

Huawei Watch GT 3 has over 100 workout modes, which is basically a catch-all function in order to accommodate all sports that users are doing. I am happy that there’s even Golf Driving range that does not just guide users about the different driving grips but also monitors your swing tempo, backswing, downswing and swing speed.

Unlike Golf Driving Range or pool swimming, which has specific monitoring variables, there are some sports that only provide BPM and kcal data. This isn’t exactly bad as this is the same thing that even Apple Watch Series 7 provides, but it would have been better had Huawei added more specific data on sports. I understand that researching prior to adding data points takes time, and I totally forgive Huawei for that.

While I don’t do running workouts as much as before, I found out that the Watch GT 3 Pro now features a more intelligent running plan. This feature gives you more flexibility to plan a targeted running workout, and monitor data that matter to you like pace, heart rate, distance, RAI, training pressure, training load, recovery degree, etc. As the watch has dual-band five-system GNSS (GPS + Beidou + GLONASS + Galileo + QZSS), you can also be sure that it has the best navigation and global positioning feature on a watch. It can even generate an outdoor workout route for you.

Now, I love the fact that Huawei managed to make data docking compatible with Runtastic. This means that if you have and keep a Runtastic account, you can easily synchronize your Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro to it. You can also link your data to adidas Running and Strava.

6,000 Music Tracks on Your Wrist

Apart from workout-specific functions, the Huawei has extra features that are proven to be helpful.

As the watch has an ample available storage space (26.8GB available at first boot), you can load it up with music and play music directly through it or via connected Bluetooth device. This means that you don’t need to bring your phone with you just to listen to your favorite tracks. That’s almost 6,000 standard quality tracks on your wrist.

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to stream music from Spotify from the watch. Despite having Huawei Music on the watch, it also does not have the feature to stream music. However, there is a way for your to “Add music to wearable”, but this requires a subscription to Huawei Music. Fortunately, Huawei has a promo where you can avail of three months subscription for zero cost at all. Plus points to Huawei for that promo.

Battery Life

In my review of the Huawei Watch GT2 Pro last year, I wanted to know if can really last for two weeks from 100%. It passed my test as it did last for such a time at moderate usage, an impressive feat no other smartwatches can achieve. Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro lasted two weeks as well from full charge.

Based on moderate to severe use, the watch GT 3 Pro’s discharge rate is 1% per 3 hours, similar to my previous experience with the Pro series. The GT 3 Pro lasted for 15 days throughout my testing. If you’re used to charging your smartwatch twice or three times a week, you can only imagine how much better this one is for you.

Verdict

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium Edition is worthy upgrade from your current smartwatch, regardless of the smartphone software platform you’re using. With its slew of impressive features and almost-perfect design, this is the smartwatch to beat in the industry.
