Samsung has filed for tax breaks for 11 more factories in Texas specifically in the Taylor and Manor districts. This, if passed, will be in addition to the chip fabrication plant (fab) it is constructing in Austin, Texas in the US.

The plan all depends if the company will get the tax breaks which would add up to USD 4.8 billion. If they get the incentives, the total investment for the new fabs will be around a whopping USD 192 billion.

The new plants could also create more than 10,000 jobs in the local areas if it does push through.

Out of the 11 planned fabs, two will be in Austin and nine in Taylor. Taylor is a town of about 17,000 people 25 miles northeast of Austin. It was also detailed that the Austin plants will get USD 25.4 billion and offer 1,800 jobs, while the plants in Taylor would get around USD 167.6 billion in investment and offer 8,200 jobs.

The plants, at the earliest, would be operational by 2034, with two planned for 2042. However, Samsung has made no guarantees that these will actually be built, meaning the plans can still be changed or scrapped.

A spokesperson from Samsung mentioned that the tax break applications were filed as a part of the company’s long-term plan. It looks to “evaluate the viability of potentially building additional fabrication plants in the US”.

The company already employs about 10,000 people in Austin with operations starting way back in 1997.
