The US, specifically the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), barred the entry of communications equipment from Chinese tech companies HUAWEI and ZTE.
In addition to the two tech giants, Chinese surveillance device maker Dahua Technology, video surveillance company Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, and telecom firm Hytera Communications Corp products were also part of the ban.
HUAWEI and ZTE Equipment barred by US Authorities
These Chinese companies have been added to the list labeled by the FCC as threats to America’s national security. Allegedly, the surveillance equipment provided by these brands may be used to spy on the American people as stated by US authorities.
Furthermore, this move is a result of the growing wariness of the US gov’t regarding Chinese telecommunications companies and tech.
“The FCC is committed to protecting our national security by ensuring that untrustworthy communications equipment is not authorized for use within our borders.”
Jessica Rosenworcel, FCC, Chairwoman
On the other hand, HUAWEI and the other companies that were affected by the ban offered no comment regarding the ban and allegations.
