New patents from Apple for crack-resistant foldable display technology and a self-healing display were recently spotted by Gizmochina.
These patents are among the growing patents from the tech giant related to foldable devices.
Apple New Patents
The new patent under the number US-20230011092-A1 is made up of multiple layers. These include a flexible substrate, a thin-film transistor layer, and a protective layer. The protective layer prevents the flexible substrate from cracks forming.
The self-healing display technology, on the other hand, allows the panel to recover from minor scratches which is a common problem with foldable devices.
It is highly unlikely that we will see a foldable iPhone anytime soon though. However, reports have surfaced of a possible foldable iPad which would be less risky for the company. It also allows Apple to refine the panel technology and even the hinge before rolling it out to the iPhone.
