After the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced a shortage in physical plastic cards in April, it revealed that there are plans to launch digital driver’s licenses with the help of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The implementation of the digital driver’s license is still unknown but the DICT, earlier this week, gave a preview of how it will look.
LTO and DICT Digital Driver’s License
The preview of the digital card was shared by the People’s Television Network (PTV) and showed the photo of the license through a smartphone.
The digital driver’s license has the same information as the traditional license, including the holder’s name and address, restrictions, height, weight, and blood type, but with a different layout. The bigger change that the digital license brings though is a barcode, which we can only assume will be used for transactions or verification.
As of writing this though, it’s uncertain how the two agencies will implement the digital driver’s license, but according to PTV, it will be rolled out this June.
