YouTube is testing a policy to block video playback for ad blockers, warning users of three strikes before their video player is disabled. The policy aims to encourage viewers to allow ads or try YouTube Premium, a subscription service offering ad-free viewing, offline downloads, and exclusive content.

The latest policy detects ad blocker usage and displays a pop-up window with three strikes before video player blockage. Users can disable ad blockers, allow ads, or subscribe to YouTube Premium. Ignoring the pop-up results will temporarily disable video playback.

A spokesperson from the streaming platform said that the ad-supported model helps creators and provides its users with free content using ads and also added that other platforms are doing the same by asking their patrons to disable ad blockers.

This anti-ad blocking campaign by the streaming platform aims to help in improving and diversifying its revenue streams to compete with other video streaming platforms.

As of now, we can only wait and observe if this new policy will be effective or will users continue to look for other workarounds and not subscribe to the platform’s premium service.
