This week, while roaming around SM City Lanang, Davao, we spotted a store that is already promoting the new and upcoming vivo V29 5G. What is interesting is that vivo is selling two storage options, both with 12GB of RAM. The 256GB variant is priced at PHP 24,999 while the 512GB variant will retail for PHP 26,999.
While having multiple storage options is common practice for smartphone brands, having 12GB of RAM hint that these devices lean towards more content creation than mobile gaming. Nowadays, games can reach more than 5GB in file size, but RAM may have more impact in overall performance. (We’ll be doing a separate article on this, so stay tuned) Nevertheless, 12GB of RAM is more than acceptable enough for playing new mobile games.
The phone also features an extended RAM technology that leverages additional storage space to enhance app performance and overall device speed. This is where things get very interesting because while the two variants of vivo V29’s physical RAM is only capped at 12GB, they are leveraging on its memory extension capability. This means that you can further extend its RAM to additional 8GB more, giving it additional memory performance.
What this does – and so do other new smartphones these days – is that it grabs a portion of its storage (UFS 3.1) to be used as extension for its RAM. Does it actually help in overall performance? you can look forward to a separate article about it.
The vivo V29 5G also has a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), along with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens, the Aura Light Flash ensures well-lit, high-quality photos even in challenging lighting conditions, making the Vivo V29 5G a mobile studio.
It also boasts a 50MP front camera that guarantees stunning self-portraits and video calls with acceptable clarity. It runs Funtouch OS 13 and houses a 4,600mAh battery with support for 80W fast-charging.
