“Mastercard’s mission is to power a digital economy that benefits everyone, everywhere, by making payments safe, simple, smart, and accessible,” said Simon Calasanz, Mastercard country manager. From reducing queues at peak hours to removing the need to carry multiple transit tickets or cash, cardholders will be able to use the same payment methods they already use for everyday spending.”

The payment technology firm is planning to launch the payment digitization program in stages, starting with MRT 3 and buses, expanding nationwide, and adding other transportation modes.

Furthermore, Filipinos will have the ability to pay for their MRT-3 ride by tapping their debit or credit cards at the turnstiles utilizing technology supplied by the payment solution provider. On select bus routes, they will also have the option to pay for their rides using their Mastercard.

The payment technology firm’s viability on MRT-3 stations and buses in Bonifacio Global City and EDSA will be tested by AF Payments.

“This is expected to benefit millions of Filipino commuters in Metro Manila, enhancing smart mobility through initiatives that bring our transit systems in line with global transport standards.”
