Cherry Mobile has a new mid-range flagship phone with Android on it, in case you haven’t heard. It’s called the Cherry Mobile Flare X, and here’s our quick unboxing of it.

As with many other Cherry Mobile smartphones, its retail box comes with an outer sleeve that lists its main features at the back. And apart from the phone itself, this box also comes with all of the necessary accessories, which include a USB cable, USB wall charger, and a pair of 3.5mm headphones.
Even though it’s an entirely new Flare series model, the Flare X retains many of the same elements found in older Cherry Mobile Flare phones. It has a removable plastic back cover that tapers towards both the left and right sides, plus its front is dominated by an IPS LCD screen as well as capacitive touch menu buttons.
Physically, there’s not much to note about it except for the large 5.5-inch display and the fact that the volume rocker is on the right side instead of the left where it’s usually found. But on the software side of things, it’s a little bit more interesting.
The Cherry Mobile Flare X comes with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, and an OTA update to Android Lollipop is said to be on its way. But even with the stock OS, there’s already plenty to see and fiddle with.
Interestingly, repeatedly tapping on the software version inside the Settings screen doesn’t produce the Android KitKat easter egg that you’re all probably already familiar with. You can see this for yourself in the unboxing video we posted above.
