realme GT 6 Review

After spending two weeks with the highly anticipated realme GT 6, it’s time to revisit my initial impressions and provide a more comprehensive review. While the device undoubtedly delivers on many fronts, there are a few areas that leave room for improvement, particularly when it comes to pricing and the availability of promised AI features.

realme GT 6 First Impressions 18

The realme GT series has always been about pushing boundaries and delivering flagship-level performance at a fraction of the cost. With the realme GT 6, the company aimed to recapture that essence, offering a device that not only looks and feels premium but also packs a serious punch under the hood. After using it extensively, I can confidently say that realme has succeeded in creating a powerful and feature-rich smartphone, but the price tag might be a deterrent for some.

Build

The realme GT 6 continues to impress with its excellent build quality. The minimalist design, coupled with the glass/semi-reflective glass trimming, exudes a sense of premium quality that belies its price point. While I’m still not a huge fan of the glass trimming, the overall construction feels solid and well-crafted.

Screen/Display

One area where realme has truly outdone itself is the display. The 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1264 x 2780 pixels and a buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate is an absolute delight.

The inclusion of cutting-edge technologies like AI Eye Care and an ultra-bright LTPO display further enhances the viewing experience, reducing eye strain and ensuring optimal visibility even in direct sunlight (thanks to its 6,000 nits brightness).

Performance

Under the hood, the realme GT 6 packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, which delivers exceptional performance. The device feels snappy and responsive, handling multitasking and demanding apps with ease. The focus on AI is evident, with realme’s Next AI suite promising to enhance various aspects of the user experience through intelligent features like AI Smart Remove, AI Smart Loop and AI Night Vision.

There has be a big buzz about AI lately, and smartphone brands have always been feature it in most of their latest smartphones. realme is definitely not an exception, and and they have been very active in promoting this in their launch.

The AI Smart Remove, although rolled out for me at a later time (I need to factor reset my phone to get this feature a day before publishing this review), works great overall. It is more optimized on removing people in the photo, in my experience. It works best on removing “people” that are not too close to the subject. You can use AI Smart Remove even on photos taken with a different camera. The only downside here is that it requires internet connection for it to work unlike most of Samsung’s AI features work locally.

The AI Night Vision feature is an interesting addition that triggers when the phone detects that its sensor is beyond its low-light capabilities. While it’s not a groundbreaking feature, it does provide a noticeable improvement in low-light video recording.

The AI Smart Loop, on the other hand, has huge potential, especially when it comes to streamlining social media or productivity workflows. The ability to identify selected content and quickly share it with third-party apps could save time and improve efficiency.

In terms of storage and RAM, the realme GT 6 doesn’t disappoint. It offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, ensuring that you’ll never run out of space for your apps, games, and media. The Iceberg Vapor Chamber Cooling System also keeps the device cool even during intense gaming sessions, making the realme GT 6 a formidable gaming machine.

Artificial Benchmark Results

Antutu Benchmark

Antutu Benchmark is a popular software tool used to measure the performance of smartphones and other mobile devices. It is developed by Antutu, a Chinese software company, and is available for both Android and iOS operating systems.

The benchmark test evaluates the device’s CPU (Central Processing Unit), GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), RAM (Random Access Memory), and storage performance. The tool generates an overall score based on the device’s performance in different tests, including CPU and GPU tests, RAM and storage tests, and user experience tests.

The Antutu Benchmark score is commonly used to compare the performance of different mobile devices and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a particular device. Higher scores generally indicate better performance, but it’s important to note that the benchmark score is just one factor to consider when evaluating a device’s overall performance.

Geekbench 6

Geekbench is a cross-platform benchmark tool developed by Primate Labs that measures the performance of a computer’s CPU and GPU. It is designed to evaluate the single-core and multi-core performance of processors, as well as the performance of the system’s memory and compute capabilities.

Geekbench 6 uses a variety of workloads to test different aspects of a system’s performance, including image processing, encryption, and machine learning. The results are reported as a single score for the CPU and GPU, which can be used to compare the performance of different systems.

Geekbench 6 is widely used by hardware enthusiasts, tech reviewers, and manufacturers to test and compare the performance of different computer systems, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. It is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and is regularly updated to support the latest hardware and software platforms.

PC Mark 3.0

PCMark for Android is a benchmark tool developed by UL Benchmarks that measures the performance of Android devices, including smartphones and tablets. The tool evaluates the device’s performance in a variety of scenarios, such as web browsing, video playback, and photo editing, and generates an overall score based on the device’s performance.

PCMark for Android includes several benchmark tests, each designed to evaluate a different aspect of the device’s performance. For example, the “Work 2.0” test evaluates the device’s performance in productivity scenarios, such as document editing and data manipulation, while the “Web Browsing 2.0” test evaluates the device’s web browsing performance.

Software

The realme GT 6 runs on realme UI 5.0, which is based on Android 14. While I haven’t had the chance to fully explore the software, realme has promised a host of new features and improvements, including enhanced security, personalization options, and performance optimizations.

Camera Specs and AI

While AI is undoubtedly at the forefront of the realme GT 6’s feature set, the camera setup is impressive in its own right. The triple camera system, consisting of a 50MP Sony LYT808 OIS main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera, delivers stunning results.

realme GT 6 Review 11

The main camera captures images with excellent dynamic range and color reproduction, while the Pro modes offer a wealth of options for those who enjoy tweaking their shots. The video capabilities are also noteworthy, with support for 4K video recording at 60fps and HDR Dolby Vision Pro recording at 4K@30fps.

Photography Experience

My photography experience with the realme GT 6 has been nothing short of impressive. The main camera captures stunning images with excellent dynamic range and color reproduction. The Pro modes also offer a wealth of options for those who enjoy tweaking their shots.

Video Experience

While the AI Night Vision feature is a welcome addition, it’s worth noting that it only triggers when the phone detects that its sensor is beyond its low-light capabilities. This means that in moderately low-light conditions, the feature may not activate, which could be a limitation for some users.

Good but….

The realme GT 6 is a powerful and feature-rich smartphone that delivers on many fronts. From its impressive display and performance to its capable camera setup and innovative AI features, there’s a lot to love about this device.

However, there’s one aspect that might give some users pause: the price. While realme has always been known for offering exceptional value for money, the realme GT 6’s price tag is not the most “reachable,” especially when compared to its competitors.

I understand the hype that surrounds the realme GT 6, including its impressive photos, AI features, and even its amazing display. But the price point might be a deterrent for those who were expecting a more affordable “flagship killer.”

Nonetheless, if you’re willing to stretch your budget, the realme GT 6 is undoubtedly a compelling option that delivers a premium experience. Just be prepared to pay a premium price for it.

Verdict

We waited years for the return of the realme GT series, and the realme GT 6 promises a hefty dose of new features, including an impressive camera, display, chipset, AI capabilities, and battery life. However, there’s one more “hefty” thing about it that might set some people back – its price.
