Apple‘s Photos app will introduce a “Recovered” album for lost or damaged photos and videos on all iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia devices, requiring software updates for older devices.
Apple “Recovered” album feature
Apple’s “Recovered” album and “Recently Deleted” album will co-exist, with updated software automatically scanning for and adding files to the “Recovered” album.
Moreover, to view recovered files in an album, go to the Photos app, tap Recovered, and authenticate using Touch ID or Face ID. You can permanently delete or restore files to your library.
The folder on your device only appears if you have recoverable files within it. If you haven’t seen the album yet after updating to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia, it may not be damaged or lost.
However, files can be damaged or lost due to interruptions, database corruption, or third-party apps. The devices now allow file recovery and control over library restoration.
