Samsung has made a significant breakthrough in-memory technology, announcing the development of the world’s first 24GB GDDR7 DRAM memory chip. This cutting-edge chip is designed to meet the demanding requirements of high-performance GPUs, making it ideal for top-tier graphics cards.
Samsung’s 24GB GDDR7 DRAM
Expected to be integrated into next-generation graphics cards, the 24GB GDDR7 DRAM boasts an impressive data transfer speed of up to 40Gbps. This substantial increase in bandwidth will enable smoother gaming experiences, enhanced content creation, and more demanding AI applications.
Additionally, the new chip offers a 30% improvement in energy efficiency compared to its predecessors, contributing to longer battery life and reduced environmental impact.
Samsung Electronics plans to validate a GDDR7 memory chip later this year. The chip is expected to be shipped to major customers like AMD and Nvidia in early 2024 and used in their next-generation GPUs. Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning, YongCheol Bae, aims to continue delivering cutting-edge memory products to meet growing AI market demands.
