According to a report from Bloomberg, Sony is said to be in the early stages of a portable handheld console that will contend against the Nintendo Switch.

Sony – Handheld Console

The console is said to allow you to play PlayStation 5 games on-the-go and builds on the PlayStation Portal. The Portal, as a reminder, is an 8-inch portable console that lets you stream your PlayStation 5 games over the internet. Initially, it was meant to work as a standalone device like the Steam Deck.

It looks like the upcoming device will instead fill that void and work as a standalone device while giving you access to your PlayStation 5 games.

Sony hasn’t commented on this report and it is said that it is likely that the console is a couple of years away from launch if it will launch.

If it is offered though, it will make the company’s games much more accessible to a wider audience as it will allow you to play them on the go as well.

With Nintendo confirming a Switch successor and gaming handheld PCs like the ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw on the rise, a Sony variant would definitely make things more exciting.
