Samsung has been pushing very hard for the recall and exchange program of its Galaxy Note7 devices. And now, this has become more evident with the company’s latest move.
In Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 recall page, it is stated that starting December 19, 2016, an update will be released which will basically disable the phone’s capability to charge. Which means when the battery drains out completely, there won’t be any chance of being able to use it again as a mobile device. Here’s a snippet from the Samsung US Note7 Recall Page. Note: This only applies to US Galaxy Note7 units
To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices.
The statement also says that more than 93% of recalled Note7’s were already returned. As such, this is also to make sure that no other incidents occur as the company values its customers’ safety above all.
There is no news whether this update will also be rolled out to regions, but if you still happen to have your Note7, well, you better be prepared.
