Qualcomm has made another mark in history, as they have finally revealed their most powerful chip to date, the Snapdragon 835.
The new chip makes use of the same Kyro cores in the 82x series, although in this iteration, 4 additional power-efficient cores have been added, and will run at up to 1.9GHz alongside 4 performance cores which are clocked up to 2.45GHz. In terms of actual size, the SD835 is around 35% smaller and uses 25% less power than the SD820.
The Adreno 540 GPU in the SD835 provides a 25% increase in graphics performance, and supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0, Vukan’s API, DirectX 12, and 4K UHD recording at 30fps, with 60fps 4K playback. The new chip also fully supports Google’s Daydream VR platform. To top it off, the SD835 now allows manufacturers to create devices that sports up to 32MP cameras, or even a 16MP dual camera setup.
Other key features of the SD835 are improved biometric security (fingerprint, iris), an X16 LTE modem which provides support for 1Gbps (Theoretical) download speeds and 150 Mbps (Theoretical) upload speeds, Bluetooth 5.0 certification with up to 2Mbps transfer speed, and last but not the least, Quick Charge 4.0 which 20% faster and provides 30% more efficiency when compared to the previous iteration.
The new chips are already in the process of mass production, and will be available for various devices starting in the first half of 2017.
