Remember the “accidental” leak of the Zenfone AR a few days ago? well, ASUS has just unveiled that exact device a few hours ago.
The Zenfone AR is a one of a kind smartphone. Aside from sporting a flagship level specsheet, it’s also the 2nd device to support Google’s Tango Technology. But before we get into that, let’s talk about what this device has above and under the hood.
The device boasts a 5.7-inch WQHD Super AMOLED display with a 79% screen to body ration, and runs on a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor specifically tailored for Tango. It also has, take note, 8GB of RAM, and a vapor cooling system. The Zenfone AR is also Daydream-Ready, which means all you’ll need is Google’s Daydream View Headset, and you’re good to go.
For the imaging department, the Zenfone AR has three rear cameras specifically tailored for Tango. For those who are not familiar with it, Tango allows for a much more immersive AR experience by measuring depth, tracking motion, and basically memorizing the surrounding area. Imagine being able to see how a shirt would actually look like when worn by someone with your body size, or being able to move and interact with virtual objects, as if they were really there. The possibilities are endless.
The Zenfone AR will come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and will be available sometime in Q2 of this year. Pricing is still to be confirmed, but with a specsheet like this, it won’t be a surprise if it gets priced a little more than the Zenfone 3 Deluxe.
