AMD has finally lifted the curtain on its much anticipated Ryzen chips, and what we’re seeing here is definitely the makings of an epic comeback, at least for now.
Ahead of the official launch scheduled for March 2, the company revealed vital information for three of its high tier processors, the Ryzen 7 series (The mid and lower tier Ryzen 5 and 3 chips will ship later this year).
Touted as the fastest 8-core processor in the market as of the moment, the top of the line Ryzen 7 1800X costs $499 (around PhP25k) and runs at 3.6GHz (boosts to 4GHz), with 8 cores and 16 threads. At least by what AMD’s figures state, it outperforms the Intel Core i7-6900K (which costs around $1,089) by 9 percent on Cinebench, for half the price.
The Ryzen 7 1700X on the other hand costs $399 (around PhP20k), also comes with 8 cores and 16 threads, but is a slightly slower version of the 1800x with a base speed of 3.4GHz (boosts to 3.8GHz). This too, outperforms the 6900K by a slightly lesser margin of 4% on the Cinebench multicore benchmark.
And finally, we have the Ryzen 7 1700, which costs $329 (around PhP16k), still has 8 cores and 16 threads, but with a base speed of 3GHz (boosts to 3.7GHz). AMD claims that it beats the Intel Core i7-7700K (which costs almost the same) by a whopping 46% on the same Cinebench multicore benchmark.
Processor | Cores/Threads | Cache | TDP | Base Clock | Turbo Clock | Price |
Ryzen 7 1800X | 8/16 | 20MB | 95W | 3.6GHz | 4.0GHz | $499 (Around PhP25k) |
Ryzen 7 1700X | 3.4GHz | 3.8GHz | $399 (Around PhP20k) | |||
Ryzen 7 1700 | 65W | 3.0GHz | 3.7GHz | $329 (Around PhP16k) |
The three chips will be supported by 82+ motherboards from all the major manufacturers including AsRock, ASUS, MSI, Biostar, and Gigabyte, and are now available for pre-order on selected outlets.
