MediaTek made some very important and exciting announcements at this year’s MWC. Their most powerful chip, the Helio X30, the new CorePilot 4.0 which intelligently balances performance with battery life, and a collaboration with Nokia for 5G development.
Helio X30
The MediaTek Helio X30 SoC is the first Deca-Core 10nm chipset from the company and offers 35% increase in performance with more than 50% power saving compared to the previous generation. It combines state-of-the-art processing architecture,.fabrication, and connectivity to provide the best mobile experience.
The X30 makes use of a Tri-Cluster architecture with two high performance A73 cores at 2.53GHz, four high efficiency A53 cores at 2.2GHz, and four slower A53 cores at 1.9GHz to deliver extreme performance.
It also supports Cat.10 LTE, to answer the consumer’s need for seamless connectivity, a PowerVR Series7XT Plus GPU clocked at 800MHz for those graphic intensive applications, offering up to 60% power savings while improving performance by up to 2.4 times compared to the previous iteration.
The Helio X30 is also the first SoC to bring hardware based 4K2K 10-bit HDR10 video decoding to smartphones. For imaging, it features 2x optical zoom in a slim form factor.
CorePilot 4.0
MediaTek also introduced CorePilot 4.0 technology, which utilizes an intelligent task scheduling system, thermal management and user experience monitoring system to determine which applications are the most critical and consequently regulate power consumption. This results to a improved battery life and performance.
5G Development
The company also announced its collaboration with Nokia to develop next-gen mobile communications systems for 5G. It involves use of MediaTek’s customer base with Nokia’s technological expertise to come out with a 5G ready ecosystem for both network operators and consumers alike.
The main goal is to roll-out a 5G-ready network from Nokia together with a compatible SoC from MediaTek, in order to bring 5G-ready devices to the mainstream market.
