A new mobile was recently introduced to help tourists and students gain more appreciation of our country’s history and our people’s culture.
It’s named KulTOURa, and was launched by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, together with the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Smart Communications and InnoPub Media.
The app offers information on must-see places in our country including heritage sites, historic schools and churches, nature parks, popular attractions, and other famous landmarks. It also contains useful trivia about selected towns and cities, including iconic personalities, delicacies and more.
“The Kultoura app was developed to help tourists and students learn more about Philippine culture and heritage. It may also be useful to foreigners who are interested in the rich history and beautiful destinations in our country.” – NCCA Chairman Virgilio Almario.
“We want to help travelers really enjoy and experience the Philippines by seeing for themselves the rich culture and heritage of our people. Innovations such as the KulTOURa app are part of Smart’s efforts to enable foreign and local tourists to travel like never before.” – PLDT and Smart Public Affairs Group Head Ramon R. Isberto.
The app, tourist marker, and provision for high-speed connectivity are all part of the Digital Tourism program launched by InnoPub and Smart in 2012 in partnership with LGUs. It aims to make use of mobile technology to promote tourism as well as the preservation of cultural and heritage sites. To date, the program has been implemented in key destinations such as Baguio, Bohol, Albay, Dapitan, and Davao.
The deployment of high speed Wi-Fi hubs at tourist spots complements Smart’s on-going LTE rollout, providing connectivity to airports, seaports, and transportation terminals all over the country, as well as in popular hangout spots such as food parks.
In cooperation with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Smart also recently launched carrier-grade Wi-Fi service at MRT Stations and along the stretch of EDSA to the benefit of commuters, traversing the country’s busiest highway.
