In another article Vivo has given us details about the new innovations that it will introduce in this years Mobile World Congress Shanghai, one of which is an under display fingerprint scanning solution.
Now, a site called 91mobiles has posted a video of the first smartphone to sport this technology, the Vivo Xplay 6.
This new technology is called Vivo Under Display, and is based on Qualcomm’s Fingerprint Sensors. Since there’s no need for a physical fingerprint scanner, it allows for new ways of approaching the smartphone design, and makes it possible to achieve a true full-screen display.
Vivo Under Display is a breakthrough unlocking solution based on Qualcomm’s Fingerprint Sensors. This feat is achieved using ultrasound from the sensor that can penetrate an OLED display up to 1.2mm thick. This gives it a tremendous advantage in terms of water-proofing and anti-ambient light.
The technology can also be further expanded into gesture recognition, security verification and other fields, which will greatly improve the user experience.
The phone that can be seen on the video is still a prototype, but it gives us a glimpse of how the design aspect for smartphones will move forward.
