Vivo has recently revealed its newest concept smartphone at MWC 2018. Named APEX, it’s a device that supposedly has the the highest screen-to-body ratio, and like the X20 UD, also sports an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The phone’s top and side bezels measure 1.8mm – the thinnest in the industry, while the bottom one measures 4.3mm. This is all thanks to an OLED panel, which allows microchips to be installed directly onto flexible circuit board.
Your Screen is Now a Speaker in Itself
For a superior audio experience, the APEX also features Vivo’s Screen SoundCasting, which allows the entirety of the FullView display to become a speaker. This is achieved by sending vibrations through the screen without the need for a loudspeaker. The end result? less power consumption and sound leakage, and also improved overall sound quality.
A More Seamless Design
The device also features an 8MP Elevating front camera, which rises in 0.8 seconds, and retracts automatically when not in use. The proximity sensor and ambient light sensors are also hidden, which paves the way for a more seamless design, while offering the same selfie experience.
Paving the Way For New Security Features
The APEX’s half-screen in-display fingerprint scanning technology basically makes the bottom half of the display, a fingerprint sensor. This paves the way for new security features, such as the device’s dual-fingerprint scanning feature.
Opening Possibilities for Further Design Improvement
The device uses a new System in Package (SIP) technology that integrates its DAC and amplifiers. This frees up some space in the phone’s interior, which can then be used for say, a bigger battery or better provisions for cooling.
