Remember the APEX phone from Vivo? Well, it no longer is, because it’s already reality. The company has just announced its newest flagship device, the new NEX-S, and my oh my, does it pack a ton of unique features.
Let’s start off with the display. While most phones these days rely on a notch to house the front-facing camera and earpiece, the NEX-S completely gets rid of that, resulting to an astonishing screen-to-body ratio of 91.24%. The device features a 6.59-inch Ultra FullView display with a 19.3:9 aspect ratio, the first of its kind.
So you might be asking, where did the front camera go? well, it’s still there, but instead of seeing it all the time, the 8MP shooter only pops-up when you need it. While this kind of mechanism might ring some bells as far as durability is concerned, but hey, at least it’s different. It also has the company’s in-display fingerprint scanning technology.
Second question, how am I going to hear the person on the other end of the line during a phone call? the answer? Vivo’s new Screen SoundCasting technology which basically allows the entire display to work as a speaker. Again, we’re not sure how well this works, but they probably wouldn’t release it if it didn’t meet standards right?
Moving on to the rest of the specs, the NEX-S is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, along with 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. As far as optics go, it basically features the same dual rear camera setup as the X21 UD – 12MP + 5MP. The device’s cameras also feature Scene Recognition, HDR, and more. The NEX-S runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo, and packs a 4,000mAh battery.
Finally, the NEX-S has Jovi, Vivo’s own voice operated digital assistant. Just like its competitors, Jovi lets you do numerous tasks on the phone using voice commands, such as opening apps and more.
The Vivo NEX-S is set to be available for pre-order starting June 13, with store availability to follow on the 23rd. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant will retail for CNY 4,498 or around $700, while the 256GB storage variant will cost $80 more. Will, it be available markets outside China? no word, but we’re hoping it will.
