Samsung has announced that it has begun mass production of its latest 12-gigabit LPDDR5 mobile DRAM. The new RAM is optimized for AI and 5G features in future smartphones, this may include the upcoming Galaxy Note 10.
Lee Jung-bae, VP of DRAM Product & Technology at Samsung revealed that the new LPDDR5 memory is built on the second-generation 10-nm class process. It will support UHD video recording and machine learning, on top of significantly extending battery life.
12 Gb LPDDR5 DRAM can transfer 44GB data in a second when the memory is made into a 12GB package. It also uses up to 30% less power through integrating a new circuit design with enhanced clocking with clocking, training, and low-power feature.
The company is also preparing a 16Gb LPDDR5 to supposedly “solidify its competitive edge in the global memory market”.
