Ok so the worlds worst kept secret is now finally official. From seemingly out of nowhere, the PlayStation Blog drops the bomb on everybody, announcing quite a number of details about Sony’s next-gen machine, including its now confirmed name, the PlayStation 5. Gee, you’d think after 1 2 3 4 they’d end up with a different convention.
Apart from the name, a release window was pegged at Holiday 2020. This falls smack dab into our predictions, as Sony cannot afford to stay too far away from the next-gen Xbox launch window. The competition leading into the next gen is tighter than ever and every day (or week) counts.
Other details have been revealed and here are some key takeaways:
- As now confirmed, the PlayStation 5 will be packing a Solid-state drive, which basically means faster everything – loading, installation, booting up, etc.
- The PlayStation 5 will come with a new and improved UI and will allow players to jump into a game much faster.
- A new controller that will be featuring adaptive triggers and haptic feedback will debut with the new system. Users will be able to more accurately feel surfaces and resistances from games.
- The new controller will use USB Type C cables this time around.
Launch games? no news on that yet, although Bluepoint games (developers of the Shadow of the Colossus remake) have confirmed that they are already in the process of coming up with a “big” title. If SotC is any indication, expect something spectacular.
With the PS5 still being a year away, the PS4 is still the console of choice and if you do plan on getting one, here are some games you wouldn’t want to miss.
