Top Five Things to Like About the Vivo V17 Pro

Contents (maximize to view)

We’ve been using the Vivo V17 Pro for a while now, and have so far come into terms with a lot of what it can and can’t do. Its predecessor, the V15 Pro, received a lot of love, thanks to its powerful internals, and a selfie camera that still holds its position as one that can even compete with a number of flagships.

Vivo V17 Pro FrontThe V17 Pro on the other hand, is an attempt at taking building up on that momentum and taking it a step further. Here’s five thing that we think make this phone a solid contender in its category.

A More Seamless Design

Vivo V17 Pro RearAs good as the V15 Pro was, its protruding rear camera module was just a bit too much for comfort. The V17 Pro’s new design addresses this issue, and now showcases a more seamless look.

Its dual front cameras are also completely hidden from view, thanks to the elevating mechanism. This allows users to take full advantage of its massive 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display.

Good for Gaming

Vivo V17 Pro CoD MobileThe V15 Pro had a Snapdragon 675, and topped our mid-range charts for quite a while. Armed the same chip along with 8GB of RAM, the V17 Pro is also capable of offering a great gaming experience.

We played CoD Mobile at Max Settings with Bloom and AA off, and the game ran smooth for most of the time. The device did get warm after a few minutes, but not to the point that it was uncomfortable to use.

Versatile Cameras

Vivo V17 Pro Front CamerasThis goes for the front camera as well, which now has a secondary wide-angle lens. As for the quality of the images, you may check out our first impressions of the device.

Feature-Packed OSVivo V17 Pro Dark ModeOne of the things I like about the new version of Funtouch OS is the system-wide dark mode, which also affects other apps such as Facebook and Instagram. Saves you battery, while giving the UI a fresh new look.

Vivo V17 Pro S-captureS-capture is another useful feature in everyday use. It can be launched from the pull-up panel and can be used to take long screenshots, a lasso tool for taking screenshots in any shape you want, and best of all, it allows for screen recording.

Vivo V17 Pro Ultra Game ModeThen there’s Ultra Game mode, in which you can enable settings blocking notifications, and optimize device performance on installed games.

Dual Engine Fast Charging

Vivo V17 Pro Dual Engine Fast-ChargingWith Vivo’s Dual Engine Fast Charging, the V17 Pro’s 4,100mAh battery can be charged from around 10% to full in around 2 hours using the supplied charger and USB-C cable. I noticed that it slows down the charging speed at around 95%, maybe to reduce the strain to the battery.

There are a few more features I like, that didn’t make it to the list. Things like custom commands for Google Assistant, Picture in Picture in-game, the Always-On Display, among others. Having used the device for a few weeks, it seems that it has picked up on most of its predecessor’s shortcomings, and is shaping up to be a good contender in the mid-range segment.
