Smart gave aid and support to the Filipino frontliners by mounting and supporting different esports events.
This all began with a Mobile Legends: Bang Bang benefit tournament which allowed the different players from around the country to play their favorite game and help out the medical workers. The tournament brought together over a thousand solo players and teams. This concluded on April 3 with the players winning PHP 100,000 worth of cash prizes.
On top of the tournament winnings, Smart donated PHP 100,000 on the tournament winners’ behalf through the PLDT-Smart Foundation to support the public hospitals and medical frontliners.
The company has also supported events by Gariath Concepts and Mineski, esports events organizers.
Smart donated two iPhone X 64GB units to help Gariath Concepts’ Care Crate Benefit Auction which was held on April 8, 12, and 15. This was to raise funds for PPEs, meals, and other essentials for frontliners. The auction raised a total of PHP 450,000.
Mineski, meanwhile, held its own multi-game tournament named the Lockdown Games. The tournament was held on April 6 – 24 and aimed to raise PHP 1 million to be donated to frontliners.
These events were a culmination of esports’ role during this challenging period by opening an opportunity to the gaming community to play and bid for a cause while keeping connected and entertained at home.
Ram found his love and appreciation for writing in 2015 having started in the gaming and esports sphere for GG Network. He would then transition to focus more on the world of tech which has also began his journey into learning more about this world. That said though, he still has the mentality of "as long as it works" for his personal gadgets.
