MediaTek recently announced the new Dimensity 820 SoC which boasts better CPU and GPU performance as well as improved 5G connectivity compared to the Dimensity 800.
It still retains the same 7nm process with four Cortex-A76 and four A55 cores but has a higher clock speed on the A76 cores. These now run on 2.6GHz, up from the 2.0GHz of the Dimensity 800. As far as RAM goes, it still supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4x.
In addition, the MediaTek Dimensity 820 has an additional core to the Mali-G57 GPU giving it a total of five cores. This allows it to get games closer to the max 120Hz refresh rate, assuming the panel supports the refresh rate as well. Like the 800, the 820 can handle only up to 1080p+ resolution.
Perhaps the bigger difference is in the modem which was upgraded to be able to have two SIM cards connect to a 5G network.
The MediaTek Dimensity 820 bridges the gap between its fellow mid-ranged Dimensity 800 and the flagship Dimensity 1000+.
Currently, Xiaomi is first in line to feature the new MediaTek Dimensity 820. It is expected to either be the Redmi K30i or the Redmi Note 10.
Ram found his love and appreciation for writing in 2015 having started in the gaming and esports sphere for GG Network. He would then transition to focus more on the world of tech which has also began his journey into learning more about this world. That said though, he still has the mentality of "as long as it works" for his personal gadgets.
