Huawei Consumer Business CEO and Huawei Executive Director, Richard Yu announced on Weibo that the company will be unveiling the highly-anticipated Mate 40 series on October 22.
A teaser video was also spotted which focuses on the eye/iris, which sparked speculations that the Mate 40 series will feature major advancements in telephoto technology.

Prior to the announcement, the MIIT certifications for three devices were leaked. These are the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro+. There have been renders of the Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro as well. The renders show a smaller pill punch hole in its display for the dual-selfie cameras and pronounced display curves.
In the camera department, the new flagship series is expected to sport a 108MP main camera with a free-form 9P lens and a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. An ultrawide shooter and a ToF sensor are also expected to round out the rear cameras.
The Mate 40 series is expected to debut the Kirin 9000 chipset, the first 5nm chip with a built-in 5G modem. Lastly, the phones are also said to charge with up to 66W fast charging.
