DJI Pocket 2 Boasts Larger Sensor, 4K 60fps Video Recording, and More

DJI has just announced the DJI Pocket 2, the successor to the Osmo Pocket.

The DJI Pocket 2 maintains the portable and lightweight body along with the 3-axis gimbal of the Osmo Pocket. The successor weighs in at just 117g and is said to give up to 140 minutes of battery life.

dji-pocket-2-1The second iteration brings with it improvements in image quality with a larger 1/1.7-inch image sensor and a 20mm f/1.8 lens. In addition, you can shoot photos with 16MP or 64MP images in high-resolution mode while video recording goes as high as 4K/60fps at 100Mbps with HDR.

The new Pocket also offers up to 8x zoom with the 64MP mode or 4x lossless zoom in 1080p. It also has improved autofocus using a Hybrid 2.0 AF blend of phase and contrast detection for better speed and accuracy.

To match the improved image quality, the audio system has been updated as well. The Pocket 2 has the DJI Matrix Stereo system which uses four microphones. It also features  Directional Audio which enhances sound recording, SoundTrack which adjusts the audio based on where the camera is facing, and Audio Zoom that narrows the sound field when zooming the camera in.

The DJI Pocket 2 carries over the simplistic and easy-to-understand design from its predecessor and has upgraded modes including:

  • Pro Mode – for advanced camera adjustments like ISO, shutter speed, EV, and focus mode
  • ActiveTrack 3.0 – keep a subject in the frame automatically
  • Slow Motion – record fast-moving subjects in slow motion with a max speed of 8x in 1080p resolution
  • Timelapse, Hyperlapse, and Motionlapse – speed up the world with varying effects of three time-lapse operations. Hyperlapse integrates Electronic Image Stabilization.
  • Panorama
    • 180-degree Pano – captures four photos for sweeping landscape images
    • 3×3 Pano – merges nine images for a wide and detailed view
  • Livestreaming – stream directly to Facebook, YouTube, or RTMP
  • Story Mode – preset camera movements, color profiles, and music for easier unified footage for social media

The Pocket 2 has quite an impressive selection of accessories as well among these include a sleek charging case, a wireless microphone set, waterproof housing, a smaller control wheel, extension rod, wide-angle lens, wireless module, and a smartphone support system. Its new modular design further adds to the customizability by removing the bottom portion of the handle to attach accessories like the Micro Tripod, Do-it-All Handle with tripod base, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module, speaker, 3.5mm audio jack, and wireless microphone receiver.

The DJI Pocket 2 is available now from the DJI store and authorized retail partners. It can be purchased with the Mini Control Stick and tripod mount (1/4”) for USD 349. For USD 150 more or a total of USD 499, you can get the DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo which includes the Mini Control Stick, tripod mount (1/4”), Wide-Angle Lens, Wireless Microphone + Windscreen, Do-It-All Handle, and Micro Tripod.
