Smart Communications, Inc. becomes the first Philippine telco to complete its Voice over LTE or VoLTE rollout to cover Smart Prepaid and Smart Signature subscribers nationwide.

VoLTE is a fully IP-based carrier-grade voice service that offers high-definition quality phone calls by using LTE networks instead of legacy voice networks.

In addition, VoLTE users will be able to make or receive phone calls while using mobile data applications simultaneously. In comparison, the traditional setup shifts the mobile network from LTE to 2G or 3G during a voice call. The new tech also reduces the waiting time for a call to connect.

smart-volteIn order to enjoy the VoLTE service, you’ll need a VoLTE-capable smartphone with a Smart LTE SIM, enable VoLTE on your phone’s settings, and then make a call like you normally would via the native dialer.

Some of the VoLTE-capable smartphones include the Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, S10, and S20 series, Note 8, 9, and 10 series, the Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy A series. In addition, the Huawei Mate 10, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, P30 series, and the Y5 2019 are also VoLTE-capable, to name a few.

The company also rolled out Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) which lets you make and receive calls and text messages over any Wi-Fi connection using your phone’s native dialer.

Calls made via VoLTE and VoWiFi will be charged like normal calls against your active subscription. For customers without an active subscription, local and international voice and text rates will apply.
