Sony Unveils the FX3 Full-Frame Camera

Sony announced the FX3 (model ILME-FX3) full-frame camera. It combines the best of Sony’s digital cinema technology with advanced imaging features from the Alpha mirrorless cameras for the ultimate cinematic look.

The FX3 is the most compact and lightweight camera Cinema Line camera weighing in at 715 g including the battery and memory cards. Its body is 77.8mm high, 129.7mm wide, and 84.5mm deep.

The Sony FX3 features the back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor full-frame 10.2 megapixel and the BIONZ XR image processing engine to ensure high sensitivity with low noise. The standard ISO range is 80 to 102,400 (expandable to 409,600 when shooting a movie), and the dynamic range is at 15+ stops.

The new full-frame camera allows you to create a cinematic look with post-production using S-Cinetone. It delivers natural mid-tones, plus soft colors, and smooth highlights to give that cinematic look.

It has 4K recording at up to 120 fps and has smooth slow-motion imagery up to 5x at QFHD resolution with autofocus.

The camera also has a detachable XLR handle unit with two XLR/TRS audio inputs for high quality audio. Because the XLR adaptor is integrated into the handle, it does not require any additional cables or batteries. In addition, the camera provides audio recording formats including 4-channel 24-bit recording.

It offers Fast Hybrid autofocus (AF) by using the 627 points focal plane phase-detection system during movie recording. This is further enhanced with Touch Tracking where you can simply touch the desired subject on the monitor screen to initiate autofocus and tracking on that subject. Precise and smooth focus is maintained with Realm-time Eye AF. Additionally, it has AF features including AF Transition Speed, AF Subject Shift Sensitivity, intuitive control, and AF support when focusing manually.

The new Cinema Line camera features 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization. It supports high-speed LAN (2.4GHz or 5GHz) and wired LAN via a compatible USB-to-Ethernet adaptor. It also supports remote shooting from PC by Imaging Edge Desktop application “Remote” via Wi-Fi or Superspeed USB 5Gbps connection over USB Type-C.

Sony has confirmed that the Sony FX3 will be coming to the Philippines soon but its price has yet to be announced.
