Xiaomi has just unveiled the Xiaomi Smart Glasses, the company’s smart wearable device concept. As the name suggests, it’s smart glasses but the company mentions that it is “an engineer’s look into an advanced future”.

Xiaomi Smart Glasses breakdown

The glasses weigh 51g and display notifications, can make calls, help navigate, take photos, and translate text in real-time. Additionally, it features a teleprompter function.

The display has MicroLEDs for backlighting with a display chip that measures 2.4mm x 2.02mm. Individual pixels are at 4μm that allows the display to fit within the frame of the glasses. The result of this is an ultra-efficient monochrome panel that allows it to reach a peak brightness of 2 million nits. This should come in handy when looking at harsh sunlight.

The MicroLED panel utilizes optical waveguide technology that refracts light at 180 degrees. This transmits light beams to the human eye “through the microscopic grating structure of the optical waveguide lens”, as Xiaomi explains it.

The grating structure allows light to bounce countless times to complete an image. The technology allows it to do so in a single lens without the need for multiple lens systems or half mirrors.

The primary interaction method with the glasses is XiaoAI assistant. It sends out the most important notifications.

Moreover, the glasses have built-in dual beamforming mics and speakers for calls. There’s also a 5MP camera on the front for taking pictures and helps in transcribing audio into text with translations in real-time.

The Xiaomi Smart Glasses are powered by a quad-core ARM processor and comes with a battery, touchpad, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, and a version of Android.

As we said, this is still a concept device so it is uncertain when or if they’ll make it out to the commercial market but it is promising as far as description and specs on paper go.
