We expected this to happen when OPPO’s former PR Manager left his post last month to join Realme. After months of speculation, Realme’s action to put up Philippine-region Facebook page cemented its confirmation that they are coming to the country. There isn’t much to see on the new regional page as they are still preparing their first salvo of promotion in the Philippines. We had to switch our region to Thailand for us to have an idea of what to expect from Realme Philippines once they have established themselves in the Philippines. You can also do this by following the instructions here. Thailand’s market is pretty similar with the Philippines. It isn’t a remote idea for their marketing team to pattern their PR and digital strategy in Thailand to our country. Their first phone to launch in the Philippines is Realme 2 Pro Whether or not they are going to…

There was an idea of bringing together the best things about the Republic of Gamers and mobile gaming. The former is known for its superiority in producing gaming laptops, peripherals, pre-built PCs and parts. The latter is a technology with a full-fledged ecosystem. However, Republic of Gamers is foremost a community than a product; it’s the reason why it’s called ‘republic’ in the first place. As a standalone gaming brand of ASUS, it built itself a nation of gamers, agnostic to any type of gaming device. When ROG eventually announced a gaming smartphone, it cemented its authority in the market as a benchmark of a gaming brand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECDtX1Xsz4s When I got my ROG Phone a few weeks ago, it threw me back to the time I was in Taiwan for Computex 2018. We all had an idea then that the phone will be announced in a separate ROG press embargo…

The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are powerful smartphones. Synthetic benchmarks usually are within the range of 240,000 – 270,000. For the trained eye, these levels are lower than usual high-end smartphones; and for a next-generation chipset such as Kirin 980, we expected it to score beyond 300,000 on Antutu. Just recently, we discovered that both units have its Performance Mode disabled at default. This means that both synthetic benchmark and actual performance are limited to save on battery.  As usual, we are after maximizing our units for us to see how well it can perform at maximum settings. So, in order for us to fully maximize our experience, we did the following things: Enter “Settings” Click on “Battery” Toggle “Performance Mode” on Performance Mode is now activated In order to show you the difference between having this mode on and off, here are synthetic benchmark results for…

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is more than just a performance and gaming powerhouse. It also features a wealth of features that prove to be the next smartphone camera of photography enthusiasts and professionals. While it won’t replace your professional camera, Huawei made it sure that the phone would be enough for you to take during holidays. First, let me show you the camera technologies this phone has: Rear Cameras Front Cameras I took the Huawei Mate 20 Pro to Nueva Ecija during the holidays. Nueva Ecija is the rice granary of the Philippines, but it’s also home to our house in Cabanatuan where you’ll find my dad’s garden. He spends most of his time in the garden when he’s not at work, and while I was there, I took the time to appreciate its beauty. Let me take you to some of the moments I captured using the Huawei Mate…

The smartphone revolution is upon us. While brands present us with plenty of impressive choices of flagship smartphones, we take note of a few amazing ones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Apple iPhone XS Max. However, consumers have started to take into account the benefits they can get than just having a slab of metal that they can use to take their next Instagram photo. For instance, Samsung Galaxy Note 9’s features are leaps beyond when directly compared to the bigger yet more expensive Apple iPhone XS Max. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvLSuAoy8R4 For a hardcore Android user, Samsung’s latest Note is bliss. It packs all the bells and whistles a Note has and features that only a powerful flagship smartphone possesses. It always sets a barometer that’s worthy of emulation; no wonder why other brands always look up to this smartphone as something they aim to beat. Design There are…

“Fortune favors the bold.” For the uninitiated, or less initiated, yet brave enough to purchase an Honor 8X, the famous quote above will make sense. Honor 8X offers a variety of amazing things that are usually found on flagship devices. Honor Play got our thoughts and feelings initiated with its top-notch performance that can rival a fairly pricier Pocofone F1. Honor 8X, on the other hand, provides uncompromised performance and design, which we have tackled deeply on this link. For a moment, let us zip away from its core specifications and zero onto its big and immersive 6.5-inch full view display. It covers up to 91% of its front panel, which widens the playing field and content real estate of the user. The moment you turn this device on, you’ll instantly notice how big its screen is, and the wealth of experience ready for you, and the plethora of stories…

While we all anticipated the announcement of the new iPad Pro, the features it now carries just reshaped the tablet competition. The new iPads – both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch – have transformed itself to a tablet version of its phone counterpart, the iPhone XS. Everything about it now makes it a worthy companion to content creators and even mobile gamers. While the tablet scene isn’t as exciting as the smartphone competition, the new iPads may just enliven it again with its slew of exciting new features. The 2018 iPad Pros sports a Liquid Retina Display with ProMotion technology. The latter isn’t exactly new, but the positive remarks about its performance on previous line-up that has such feature makes it impossible for Apple to not bring it to new iPad generations. The A12X Bionic chip on the new iPads makes it 2x faster the previous iPad Pro. I just couldn’t imagine how…

I never lost hope of Cherry Mobile. Like most of the brand’s fans, I remain to stay hopeful because of Cherry Mobile’s dedication to bringing products that value what the Filipinos want. Things have been tough for Cherry Mobile lately due to its international competitor’s aggressive approach to marketing their products. However, despite this, the company’s resolve to be dominant in the market remain strong and unshaken. Every year, we are treated with a new hero flagship device from the local company, and our verdict isn’t consistently good. Their first dabble on 18:9 display last year received mixed reviews, but we thought that it was a good start by the company and it was a direction they needed to be in. A year later, we have the Flare S7 Plus – the most premium and probably the best Cherry Mobile phone we have reviewed yet. There’s too much to talk…

A few months ago, we went to Taiwan to witness the launch of ROG Phone along with slew of ASUS’ new products.  Back then, I didn’t realize that ASUS will officially bring it to the Philippines and let Filipinos buy the most sought-after gaming smartphone in the market. 3 months later, during ESGS 2018, I found myself staring at this box I received for our unboxing and review. There’s no better way to do this but to quickly tell you what’s inside the box. Like you, I just couldn’t contain myself from getting everything out and finally use the ROG Phone. Check out my unboxing experience with Emman of the ASUS ROG Phone. Its retail box is unlike anything we’ve seen. Its hexagonal look just doesn’t remind of anything we’ve unboxed before. As this one is part of the ROG line of products, I couldn’t help but notice the signature mayan…

ESGS is upon us, and what better way to kick things off than a gaming brand to announce new products for gaming console and mobile gaming device owners. If you own a PS4, Switch or the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone, then you would be happy to check out these new products. HyperX Cloud for PS4 Yup, you see that Playstation logo on this HyperX product. It might just be the 1st Playstation Interactive Entertainment licensed HyperX headphone, and it looks amazing. It almost shares the same look of the HyperX Cloud II with its aluminum frame and detachable noise-canceling microphone for in-game chat. Headphone Specifications Driver: Dynamic, 53mm with neodymium magnets Type: Circumaural, Closed back Frequency Response: 15Hz–25,000 Hz Impedance: 41 Ω Sound pressure level: 95dBSPL/mW at 1kHz T.H.D.: < 2% Weight: 325g Weight w/ mic: 337g Cable length and type: Headset (1.3m) Connection: Headset – 3.5mm plug (4 pole) …

Philips and AOC have been in the Philippines for quite some time now, and have proven themselves to be worthy of their position in the display and monitors industry. Though their rank dropped to #3 from #2 last year, Philips and AOC confirmed that their global shipments from 2017-2018 didn’t include devices other than displays and monitors. During a press launch at Shangri La Hotel in Mandaluyong, Philips and AOC announced new consumer monitors and display solutions. The products range from 4K HDR display to 1ms 144hz panel for PC and console gaming at crazy affordable prices. Philips kicked everything off with the announcement of their latest 43-inch display  (436M6VBRAB) that supports 4K and True HDR. It also features an unprecedented Ambiglow technology that brings users to a different kind of immersive experience. Here’s a quick rundown of the new monitor’s features: Superb video quality DTS Home theater surround sound…

Huawei always has this history of pricing their premium smartphones way more affordable than the prices in other countries. Huawei seems to be continuing this trend with the prices of Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but we didn’t expect the prices to be this low. Based on our computation with the launch SRP as the basis, the Mate 20 4GB variant should be around PhP49,778.92 without tax, and the Mate 20 6GB variant should be around PhP52,894. As for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the price should be around PhP65,354 without tax. Then, earlier this morning, we saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8YESpx3w98&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0XjkKNWvzZG_UX3QlwXbCtO_Jxo3ms87SL_7mv4uoci1tpnbbg31OB18I There you have it! Huawei Mate 20 Pro’s price (PhP49,990) is the best one we’ve seen as it has the best bang for the buck premium smartphone. It almost has all of the premium smartphone features, plus the unprecedented reverse charging technology, and its price put…

People Demand for Power Without doubt, consumers now demand for more powerful smartphones, but an affordable cost. If you take a look at the chart that IDC posted last October 1, ultra low-end and low-end devices dominate the price band spectrum of the industry. A year later, you would notice a significant shift in the spectrum where ultra low-end decreased, while both low-end and mid-range increased. The rise of midrange smartphones in the spectrum spell out the demand of consumers to use smartphones that can meet with their demands, which typically fall within the bounds of mobile gaming. Games Demand for Power MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) and battle royale are usually the new game genres that require high specifications, but there was a seeming disconnect as most mobile phones that are able to play these games are either too expensive or can get literally too hot to handle because…

ASUS ROG Phone is officially launching in a few days here in the Philippines, and we’re expecting it to be the gaming smartphone of first choice by mobile gaming enthusiasts. Provided that the price is right,  ROG phone is, by far and in terms of specifications, the most powerful gaming smartphone in the market. A few days ago, Huawei announced the latest Mate 20 Series, and announced a smartphone that’s positioned for gaming. Huawei Mate 20 X is a gaming-positioned device with specifications that sits at the middle of Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro. During Huawei’s presentation, they even boldly claimed that the Mate 20 X is better than the Nintendo Switch. While we’re seeing it as a marketing campaign to make a statement their Mate 20 X is positioned for gaming, the claim was not taken very well by a lot of media outlets and Nintendo Switch…

So, we just picked up this news over Twitter about a Senate hopeful, Bethaisda Lopez, who is willing to push a bill to ban Clash of Clans and DOTA. According to the post by Catherine Gonzales of Inquirer, Lopez stated that these games “negatively influence the youth”. There was no mention of Lopez’s reference about her claim. Based on our research, Bethaisda (almost a namesake of a game development company Bethesda) was declared by the Supreme Court in 2016 as a nuisance candidate after she failed for a petition. We still have yet to hear for updates…

Just how smart can smartphones get? Huawei may have the answer to that with their latest lineup of Huawei Mate 20 Series. Huawei Consumer Business Group recently unveiled their latest line of Huawei Mate 20 smartphones. Being the earliest to release their latest flagship line, Huawei has just laid out a trend that can definitely put its competitors to a state where they need to catch up. With Huawei’s Mate 20 series, the company put up specific technologies that make their smartphones smarter, faster and more capable. For starters, the Mate 20 series is powered by Kirin 980. It is the world’s first 7nm chipset and offers up to 37% increase in overall performance over the Kirin 970. It uses 2 clusters, one is made up of 4 A76 cores, 2 of which are clocked higher than the other two. The second cluster on the other hand, uses four efficient A55 cores.…

Just when you thought that Steam is the only online game store distribution platform that’s available, think again. Just today, Discord, known for its widely used communications app, is launching its very own store that may be accessed directly in the platform. https://youtu.be/1h9F_oPxtes The store features a number of games, which are sometimes first available on Discord like “At Sundown”, “Bad North”, “King of the Hat”, “Minion Masters” and “Sinnerz”, to name a few. The store library is expected to grow in the next few days, and it may very well be another alternative to Steam and Microsoft Store. Of course, Discord plays very well with Steam. The platform can detect your Steam Library and let you access everything that’s installed on your system via its universal launcher. There is also an option to allow Discord overlay to be integrated to all compatible games with a single click of a…

ASUS and OPPO have been constantly battling to get a good chunk of consumer mindshare. Its most powerful smartphones – Zenfone 5z and Find X – are now both available in the Philippines, and have proven to be among the best ones available in the market. While both phones are in 2 price polarities in the flagship category, they offer good gaming and camera performance. The purpose of this article to see how both devices fare in the rear camera and AI photography departments. During our recent trips, we used both phots to take photos and see, which one performed better in various conditions. Do note though all the photos were taken with AI-Mode enabled on both devices. OPPO always dominates the shootout when it comes to selfie shots. There are a few extra steps to enable beauty mode on Zenfone 5z, while it’s already turned on at default when…
