Huawei Rotating Chairman, Guo Ping discussed how unlocking the full potential of 5G can drive commercial success at the company’s online Better World Summit held last month. It was also led by Huawei Corporate Senior Vice President and Director of the Board Catherine Chen.

The summit included guest speakers from China Telecom, Etisalat, MTN, GSMA, and 3GPP/ETSI. Huawei’s BWS also included several thousand online attendees from more than 80 countries.

With more than 90 million 5G users worldwide, now is the best time to unleash the full potential of 5G.

“As global 5G deployment begins to wrap up, we need to strengthen our focus on industry applications,” Guo said. “This will help us unleash the full potential of 5G.”

5G isn’t just about better connectivity, when combined with technologies like computing, cloud, and AI they create numerous opportunities in the five domains, namely: connectivity, AI, cloud, computing, and industry applications.

“We can mix and match them to create scenario-based solutions that meet the unique needs of our customers and partners. This is key to unlocking the full potential of 5G and driving commercial success,” said Guo.

The entire industry has to work together for 5G to succeed commercially. Vertical industry applications can be replicated at scale only when unified industry standards and a collaborative ecosystem are in place.

Guo also mentioned how information and communications technology (ICT) aids in the fight against COVID-19 through a concrete set of tools.

“By drawing on our experience in early hotspots, we have developed nine scenario-based solutions that use ICT technology to help combat the pandemic. Whether it’s hospital network deployment, remote consultation, online education, or restarting governments and businesses, we’ve been sharing our experience and capabilities to help control the spread of the virus and reopen economies,” he mentioned.

In addition, Huawei has three suggestions, both short-term and long-term, for how more precise development can maximize the value of the network. These are:

  • First, carriers should prioritize user experience and spend money where it’s needed most to maximize the value of existing networks.
  • Second, carriers should make the most of existing 4G and FTTx networks, and integrate them with new 5G networks through holistic coordination and precise planning.
  • Third, 5G deployment plans should prioritize hotspots and key industry applications.

Ram found his love and appreciation for writing in 2015 having started in the gaming and esports sphere for GG Network. He would then transition to focus more on the world of tech which has also began his journey into learning more about this world. That said though, he still has the mentality of "as long as it works" for his personal gadgets.
