There has been a huge buzz about augmented and virtualy lately. In fact during the recent Google I/O, one of the focus products of the company is the future of mixed reality and their plans to bring it to more people. Today, June 24, ASUS Philippines finally launched the ASUS Zenfone AR, the first smartphone which supports both Daydream and Tango; and the first smartphone to have 8GB RAM. While the latter version won’t come to PH – as they are initially bringing in 6gb variant – the device gained a lot of interest in tue mixed reality enthusiast scene and consumera who dearly love to own a powerful smartphone. How powerful, you asked. Check out the specs below, and our review on this link. Mixed reality has been growing more traction worldwide. In fact, when I met Josh Vergara of Android Authority this Computex 2017, he said that speculations about the upcoming Pixel 3 having Tango embedded to its system has been going around. In the Philippines, while Filipinos aren’t much familiar with ‘mixed reality’ as a term, virtual reality has been getting popular with the proliferation of VR glasses and Playstation VR. Mixed reality is totally a different animal though, and it might take a while for Filipino consumers to embrace it like virtual reality. Last December 2016, I got the chance to interview Chris Misola, a pioneer in mixed reality app development scene in the Philippines, about the present and future of mixed reality in the Philippines. The future is bright, but it requires great amount of effort to promote it down to the consumer level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Fg4fq3KiKE Microsoft Hololens is expensive, and…

Remember the “accidental” leak of the Zenfone AR a few days ago? well, ASUS has just unveiled that exact device a few hours ago. The Zenfone AR is a one of a kind smartphone. Aside from sporting a flagship level specsheet, it’s also the 2nd device to support Google’s Tango Technology. But before we get into that, let’s talk about what this device has above and under the hood. The device boasts a 5.7-inch WQHD Super AMOLED display with a 79% screen to body ration, and runs on a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor specifically tailored for Tango. It also has, take note, 8GB of RAM, and a vapor cooling system. The Zenfone AR is also Daydream-Ready, which means all you’ll need is Google’s Daydream View Headset, and you’re good to go. For the imaging department, the Zenfone AR has three rear cameras specifically tailored for Tango. For those who…

It seems that that ASUS is planning to surprise us with a very unique smartphone in CES 2017, as what seems to be a press release from Qualcomm (accidentally perhaps) was posted containing information about the ASUS Zenfone AR. Not much has been revealed in the document. But what is says is that the newest member of the Zenfone lineup sports a Snapdragon 821 processor, contrary to rumors of it being the first device to use the Snapdragon 835. The Zenfone AR is a Tango-Enabled smartphone like the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. This means that it has the capability of producing a more immersive AR experience that rivals that of more powerful systems such as the HTC Vive. Tango is a Google Technology which paves the way for better AR content by being able to sense movement in addition to location awareness. This allows for apps that can for example,…
