It’s the time of the year when IDC or the International Data Corporation produces and reports market data. Last April 5, IDC Asean Senior Market Analyst for Client Devices, Jensen Ooi, and Associate Market Analyst for Client Devices Sean Agapito report the latest update on the country’s consumer devices market. In the report, IDC reported a global decline of total smartphone shipments in 2017 by 1%. Major contributor to the decline is the increase of average selling price (ASP) of smartphones to 22.5% to USD 198. Despite this year’s global shipment decline, IDC reports that the expected smartphone shipment for 2018 will grow, as seen on the data below. Changing user demand led to first time decline of #smartphone shipments in 2017. The average selling price (ASP) of #smartphones grew 22.5% to USD198. Growth in 2018 to be spurred by Samsung, Apple, and Chinese brands. #AskIDCPH pic.twitter.com/0PfsLq6TJa — IDC Philippines…

Just a day before Christmas, Cherry Mobile has quietly launched what might be one of the most affordable smartphones in the market with an 18:9 display, the Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Deluxe, priced at only PhP5,999! The Flare S6 Deluxe is basically a Flare S6 with a bigger 5.7-inch full screen HD+ display. It’s also powered by a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card. Unlike the Flare S6, the Deluxe’s front camera has been somewhat downgraded – from 13MP to 8MP, while the rear camera stays at 13MP. The Deluxe packs a slightly bigger battery – 3,000mAh compared to the S6’s 2,600mAh. It also uses a standard microUSB port compared to the Type-C port on the S6. The Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Plus is what you could call, the star in today’s launch, Primarily because of its looks. It’s the company’s first smartphone to feature an 18:9 display. Its 5.7-inch 18:9 TrueView HD Plus display shows thinner bezels and more screen, which means more room for your content. It’s odd that this doesn’t have the same Full HD screen as the Selfie, which costs less by the way, but that’s probably to increase battery life. Under the hood is an octa-core MediaTek MT6750T processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. As for the cameras, the Flare S6 Plus has four of them. Specifically, 16MP + 5MP sensors both at the front and rear. Now, we just hope that they implemented it well. The Flare S6 Plus also features Hi-Fi audio, a USB Type-C interface, and Cherry OS, the brand’s own skin based on…

While it was initially rumored that Cherry Mobile will release the Flare S6 and S6 Plus, the announcement of the Flare S6 Selfie was quite a surprise. We’re guessing they’re sticking to what’s popular and trending, even among the competition. The Flare S6 Selfie’s main asset is its 16MP front-facing camera, which was co-developed with Morpho, a Japanese company which specializes in imaging technologies. So can we expect better photos from this phone? probably. But we’ll have to see during our review. There’s also a 16MP camera at the back, which should be almost as powerful as the one in front. The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display, and is driven by an octa-core MT6750T processor along with 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 2,600mAh battery. The Flare S6 also features Hi-Fi audio, USB Type-C Connectivity, and Cherry Mobile’s own take on Android, Cherry OS, which…

It looks like Cherry Mobile is once again stepping up its game with the impending launch of the Cherry Mobile Flare S6 and S6 Plus this month. Update: Here’s your first clearer look at the new Flare S6 Plus. On the most recent episode of The Cherry Mobile Show, the brand’s Product Development Engineer Vince Vicente revealed a key design element for these new smartphones, an 18:9 TrueView display. This means that we can expect more screen and less bezels, similar to what the other brands have been recently going for. Another interesting rumor is that both the S6 and S6 Plus will sport… take note, dual front and rear cameras. Just how good those cameras are, is something we’ll have to see. Of course, probably the most awaited part that we would want to know, is just how much these new phones will cost. He also mentioned that more…

Remember the Cherry Mobile Selfie a few years back? We tuned in to Cherry Mobile’s recent Facebook Live video with Kim Chiu and we got so intrigued with the smartphone she flashed. At 16:35, GadgetMatch’s Dan Morial said “Parang bago yan!”. We had the same thoughts because it’s unlike anything we’ve seen from the Philippines’ fruit company. The device has rounded corners and fingerprint sensor just below its main rear camera. Judging by its size, it might have a 13 or 18-megapixel main camera. Just above its camera are antenna band and a dual LED flash. Kim Chiu also showed the front side of the phone. It is obvious that that new phone either has 5.5-inch display or more. There are no capacitive buttons, which is a good thing, but we’re not liking the big bezel below the screen. She took a selfie too and gave us a glimpse of the…

The Cherry Mobile Desire R8 is one of the newest smartphones from the brand to sport a dual rear camera setup. Priced at PhP9,999, it’s touted to offer decent imaging capabilities and overall performance without putting a big hole in your wallet. But from what we’ve experienced from the brand’s other dual cam models, were they able to get this one right? Let’s find out. Cherry Mobile Desire R8 Specs: 1.5GHz MediaTek 6750T octa-core processor 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB) 5.5-inch full HD IPS display 13MP + 5MP Dual Rear Cameras 8MP Front Camera Dual SIM, LTE USB Type-C 3000mAh battery Android Nougat Sensors: Fingerprint, Accelerometer, Magnetometer, Orientation, Light, Proximity Simple Looks, Solid Build Quality The Desire R8 looks more expensive than it actually is. The phone is comfortable to hold and the material doesn’t feel cheap in the hand. The front…
