Huawei unveiled its first foldable phone earlier this year – the Mate X. It was initially scheduled to be released by the end of June but the US trade ban happened. Reports mention that the Mate X is instead set for release in September. We initially covered Huawei Mate X and posted our initial review here. According to a Huawei spokesperson, the Mate X will launch will focus on global markets where 5G infrastructure is already deployed. The device is going through extensive testing, following the issues with the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Huawei is making sure that their foldable phone will be truly ready for a global launch. Today was definitely quite memorable one, thanks to a few hours we’ve spent in BGC for a much anticipated roundtable and a hands-on of perhaps, one of the most iconic devices to break ground this year, the Huawei Mate X. It’s another milestone for Huawei, as its foldable smartphone, the Mate X, has won the prestigious “Best Connected Mobile Device of Mobile World Congress 2019” award, thanks to its innovative Falcon Wing mechanical hinge, 5G communication capability, innovative human-smartphone interaction, and SuperCharge technology. This special and most coveted award is given by the organizer GSMA for newly released or soon-to-be-listed mobile products, and represents the highest recognition in pioneering future technologies. Ahead of Huawei’s press event at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain, a banner of the foldable phone from the brand appeared on a tweet. The photo reveals the name of their foldable phone, the Huawei Mate X. Twitter user @gimme2pm tweeted the photo showing workers installing a display banner containing the foldable device. Along with the name of the device, the banner reads “World’s first foldable 5G phone”. https://twitter.com/gimme2pm/status/1098995332233469953 Unlike the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X has a single display that wraps around the exterior on the phone. When closed, we’d only be using a section of the folded display. It is expected that the Mate X will feature a high-end camera.
