Today, we’re going to see how the new ASUS Zenfone 5’s design stacks up to the competition. We’re going to look at all sides, and try to give an impression of how it feels to work with and hold this device in your hand. Unfortunately, the unit we used for this overview is a pre-production sample, so those who want to see benchmarks and first camera samples will have to wait until we get our hands on a retail unit. ASUS Zenfone 5 Specs Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor with ASUS AI Boost 4GB/6GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of storage expandable via microSD card (Up to 2TB) 6.2-inch FHD+ 19:9 IPS display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass, 90% Screen-to-Body Ratio, AI Display 12MP + 8MP rear cameras, Sony IMX363, f/1.8 Night HDR, OIS, EIS, PDAF, 4K Video Recording, RAW File Support 8MP front camera, f/2.0, 120° wide-angle lens Fingerprint scanner, Face Recognition…

Vivo has recently revealed its newest concept smartphone at MWC 2018. Named APEX, it’s a device that supposedly has the the highest screen-to-body ratio, and like the X20 UD, also sports an in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone’s top and side bezels measure 1.8mm – the thinnest in the industry, while the bottom one measures 4.3mm. This is all thanks to an OLED panel, which allows microchips to be installed directly onto flexible circuit board. Your Screen is Now a Speaker in Itself For a superior audio experience, the APEX also features Vivo’s Screen SoundCasting, which allows the entirety of the FullView display to become a speaker. This is achieved by sending vibrations through the screen without the need for a loudspeaker. The end result? less power consumption and sound leakage, and also improved overall sound quality. A More Seamless Design The device also features an 8MP Elevating front camera, which…

Less than two weeks ago, we gave you a heads-up that the LG V30s will be showcased in MWC2018. Now, via gsmarena we got the goods that indeed, the critically-acclaimed LG V30 will be getting an upgrade.  Two devices were announced, namely the V30S ThinQ and V30S+. The former houses 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage while the latter gets the same RAM but goes with a 256GB storage. New colors for both variants also underway, namely Moroccan Blue and Platinum Gray. So what’s with the ThinQ? It’s LGs way of introducing its own AI which is akin to Samsung’s Bixby that’ll let you control your smart appliances and realize your LG branded IoT potential. As for pricing none yet but should be in the range of the LGV30 that came before it (P35,000 to 45,000).

In its press conference held last night, Huawei unveiled the Matebook X Pro. Sounds familiar, no?  That’s because Huawei is not ashamed of aping not just the name but the look and feel of Apple’s Macbook Pro. And, from what we saw, specs-wise, it’s a product worthy of consideration by anyone who’s in the market for top of the line laptops. Let’s talk about the screen. Huawei claims that it is the world’s first FullView touchscreen laptop with a 91% display coverage. It has a 3000 x 2000 resolution, 260 PPI, 100% sRGB color gamut, 450 nits brightness, and 1500:1 contrast ratio. This edges out the latest Macbook Pro 15-inch models’ non-touchscreen specs (2880-by-1800 native resolution at 220 PPI). Comparing it amongst its fellow Windows counterparts, it leaves them to dust with not just the 10% gain in screen-to-body ration but with a 4-speaker Oh and one more thing, due to ultra…

A new MediaTek chip has been spotted in popular benchmarking site, Geekbench, and is rumored to be headed to MWC 2018. Named MTK P60 MWC Demo. it runs on Android Oreo 8.1.0 and 4GB of RAM. Judging from the Single-Core score, the chipset will most likely be too high for a Cortex A53. This octa-core processor can also competitively run with the Snapdragon 660. Source (in Chinese) via

It’s that time of the year again when smartphone makers go head to head in one convention. Today, two of the most anticipated devices at MWC have finally been revealed. Behold, Samsung’s newest crown jewels, the Galaxy S9 and S9+. For the past months, a lot of information about these devices have been floating around the web – from benchmark scores to leaked press renders, even the official promo video leaked out a day before the launch. Still, nothing beats the real news, right? Curved Super AMOLED Displays As with their latest devices, the S9 and S9+ are both equipped with 18.5:9 Displays with  WQHD+ resolution similar to the Note 8, with the curved glass meeting the rear panel in a seamless and flowing design.  The S9 at 5.8-inches, and the S9+ with 6.2-inches of real-estate. As always, these curved Super AMOLED panels distinguish themselves with rich and vibrant colors.…

Apart from the 3-series handsets, TCL also announced another budget device named the Alcatel 1X, a device that’s lackluster on paper, even for a budget phone, but comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Apart from the budget-oriented 3-series handsets, TCL also announced the brand’s newest “flagship”, though I’m not really sure how they define that word, since the new Alcatel 5’s specs are mostly from the mid-range book. In any case, let’s leave them be and focus on the phone. It has a 5.7-inch, 18:9 HD+ IPS display, and is powered by the MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor. I know, it’s an odd choice given that there’s a bunch of newer chips out there. There’s 2GB/4GB of RAM, and 16GB/32GB of storage with microSD card support. The Alcatel 5 uses a 12MP sensor at the back with features like EIS, Light Trace, Slow Motion, and Video Story, complimented by a dual front-camera system composed of a 13MP main sensor, complimented by a 5MP sensor.  The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat, and packs a 3,000mAh battery. Other features include Dual SIM capability, Bluetooth 4.2, FM…

We all know Energizer as a sole provider for our battery needs. This time though, the company is stepping up their game up by reportedly announcing a one-of-a-kind smartphone at MWC. Meet the P16K Pro, with a 16,000mAh battery. We can’t even imagine the capacity of this smartphone has – that’s four times bigger than the other smartphones released! You’ll be the judge when it comes to its design but definitely we will see a semi-thick rear portion because of the battery. This smartphone becomes official today, February 25. Looks like the folks at HMD global are prepping up a number of surprises, as the company has just confirmed its MWC 2018 press conference, scheduled for February 25th, 2018. So what can we expect? given the scale of the event, we might be looking at devices across the entire spectrum: A new Flagship, and perhaps even a mid-range phone . Anyhow, the Nokia 9 is rumored to come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, and feature a 5.3-inch Quad HD display. It’s may also be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
