In this age of an on-the-go lifestyle, watching videos on mobile devices has been the trend. Recently, OpenSignal, an independent mobile analytics company, released a new report (which now includes Asian carriers) that details the mobile video experience in Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines. In its per-operator study, Smart garnered a score of 42.2, beating its closest competitor’s score of 29.2. Close to a year after initial implementation, carrier-grade Smart Wi-Fi can now be found in major airports, transportation hubs, universities, hospitals, and entertainment hubs in the Philippines, allowing people to take their digital lifestyle to the next level. A JP Morgan study showed that Smart Communications has the fastest LTE service in the Philippines, with average download speeds constantly improving over time. In April 2017, based on a report from users of the OpenSignal app which lets them do their own speed tests, JP Morgan mentioned that Smart “leads in overall LTE download speeds and at regional levels.” Smart LTE registered an average LTE download speed of 10.91Mbps from December 2016 to February 2017. 11.76Mbps in Metro Manila, 8.56Mbps in Southern Luzon, and 10.42Mbps in the Visayas region in the same period. The telco has also improved its LTE speeds in all areas covered by the study, with figures being the highest in last 8 testing periods of OpenSignal. One month after firing up LTE-A as part of Smart Communcation’s latest internet services, the wireless leader finally announced the LTE deployment of the wide range of LTE connections in the Philippines. This move requires Smart to deploy new LTE cell sites across the country to cope up with the rising demand for better internet and internet penetration. During the press launch, Smart Technology Group Head, Rolando Pena, said that they will be deploying a total of 1,400 sites across the country which comprise of both FD-LTE (FDD-LTE, or Frequency Division Duplexing) and TD-LTE (TDD-LTE, or Time Division Duplexing). The additional TD-LTE sites will eventually power up and bring high-speed mobile broadband speeds to cities in Bulacan, Cavite, Cebu, Laguna, Pampanga, Rizal and Metro Manila.
