2019 has come and gone and what a year it was for games. We saw the release of new IPs like Sekiro, Astral Chain, and Bloodstained as well as continuations of beloved series like Monster Hunter World Iceborne and Devil May Cry 5. Oh, and let’s not forget the successful reintroduction of Resident Evil 2 to the new generation because of that awesome remake!
Yes 2019 what quite the year, which makes it more exciting to think about what 2020 will offer. While there is the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake and Cyberpunk 2077, as well as the new generation consoles like the Playstation 5, let’s take things one step at a time and see what’s in store for January 2020 as there are some notable titles to look forward to:
Warcraft III Reforged (PC) – January 28, 2020
Fans of the classic RTS title are surely going to get a kick out of revisiting and going to war again in the lands of Azeroth with this reimagining of the award winning Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Aside from retaining the core gameplay, the most striking feature would be the improved graphics and animation and 4K support. While for its time Warcraft III’s blocky graphics were acceptable, you can’t help but just marvel on how better the character units look and move in Reforged. Not to mention the Frozen Throne expansion will already be included so you’re sure to get the complete and improved Warcraft III experience when it releases.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore (Switch) – January 17, 2020
Another remake of a 2015/2016 RPG, the original Tokyo Mirage Sessions was released on the Wii U and is soon going to be released on the Nintendo Switch. Atlus’s touch is fairly noticeable as it is another turn-based RPG set in modern day Tokyo where you control a group of teenagers. Music and entertainment are at Tokyo Mirage’s core and the melding of worlds between Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei and the Fire Emblem series is something that fans and newcomers alike should look forward to!
Monster Hunter World Iceborne (PC) – January 9, 2020
PC Hunters rejoice as you’re soon going to be able to experience all the awesome new features in Monster Hunter World’s first expansion, Iceborne. Return to the New World and get ready to more monster hunting in the new frozen lands of the Hoarfrost Reach, relearn your weapons and get ready to explore new areas as the hunt continues in just a few more days!
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot (PC, PS4, Xbox One) – January 17, 2020
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot will be an open world action RPG (gasp!) as you relive the story arcs from the anime! Aside from the usual fighting, you’ll be also able to explore the world of Dragon Ball Z, talking to NPCs, tackling side quests, and much more! We’ve played the game back during the Tokyo Game Show 2019 and were left impressed by how well an RPG setting feels, so we’re pretty excited about this! Have you pre-ordered your collectors edition yet?
