With over 37,000 units sold on the first day, the current sales of OPPO F7 somehow tell us about consumer preference and need for a smartphone. Looking at what OPPO F7 can do in terms of performance and photography, it proved itself to be a worthy purchase in its category. OPPO F7 2

Behind its shiny metal-clad body, the OPPO F7 is lifeless without Mediatek’s Helio P60 SoC, which stocks all of the necessary components to power it up so users can do wonders with it. MediaTek has come a long way in improving its SoC. It was 2 years ago when they announced Helio P10, which sports 28nm chip. Fast forward to 2018, the latest Helio P60 now sports 12nm chip but packed with more future-proof features.

At the core of the Helio P60 is an octa-core processor, which are focused on managing and balancing performance. The processors are buffed with 2 microarchitectures: (4-core) A73, which is in charge of high-resolution gaming, 4K video playback, and graphics rendering; and, (4-core) A53, which is focused on web browsing, social media chat and small tasks. If you compare this with last year’s Helio P23, all its cores are A53 microarchitectures, which basically tells us how the Helio P60 is a much upgraded SoC. Conversely, with P60 inside OPPO F7, it is technically 2x more powerful than phones with Helio P23 (like A83 and F5).

What makes P60 more interesting is its dual-core NeuroPilot APU or artificial intelligence processing unit. This makes OPPO’s latest local flagship more interesting compared to its previous iterations. This is rarely seen on a midrange device, but OPPO decided to jack this inside the OPPO F7 to supposedly put more value to their product. We thought that OPPO did an amazing job with the OPPO F7 based on our review.

What does NeuroPilot do in OPPO F7? Here’s quick video, and you probably you didn’t know this if you just purchased an OPPO F7 out of whim.

2 words: Artificial Intelligence.

In a statement given by TL Lee, General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication business unit, “…P60 brings consumers flagship features such as AI functions, fluid gaming experience, and smart camera functionality. With the power of P60 at its core, OPPO F7 gives consumers access to an incredible device with brand new user experience at a very competitive price.”

“OPPo F7 has proven itself as a top performer with its price range, and the performance it delivers defies the expectation of customers today. With the advance A.I. Technology embedded, powering the most demanding applications such as gaming, high defition video playback and even multi-tasking between apps makes it the ideal smartphone partner for everyday use,” said Garrick Hung, OPPO Philippines Vice President for Operations.

Thermal management is another game-changing feature of Helio P60 with CorePilot 4.0. What it does is it dissipates thermal heat even when the processor is put under heavy loads such as playing 4K videos or playing games with demanding high graphics. Here’s a quick demo.

What does the future hold for MediaTek and OPPO?

As consumers demand more in terms of performance and photography, phone and chipset companies like OPPO and MediaTek would need to come up with the best blend or mix of products. The OPPO F7 is a solid example of a well-mixed product, equipped with essential features for consumers. Yes, the hype is still on OPPO F7, but my optimistic mind is telling me to get more excited with the OPPO F9 next year. Will we be seeing it with a decacore 10nm chip like X30, or a budget-version made specification for super midrange products?
