For 2023, Samsung wants to raise the bar even higher with its newest flagship – the culmination of its efforts to bring the latest innovations for consumers – the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, unveiled at the brand’s Unpacked 2023 event.
While considered by some as a minor upgrade, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra still had a lot of the boxes checked, thanks to the brand’s focus on improving the key areas that really make the difference in the overall experience. For this year, Samsung dials-in on three key areas – camera, performance, and design.
Galaxy S23 Ultra embodies the saying – don’t fix what isn’t broken in terms of the design, which means not much has changed in the looks department, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
You get the camera modules that seem to float and are more flushed with the rear panel, the S-Pen, the gorgeous, curved display, IP68 water and dust resistance, and armor aluminum construction.
Speaking of which, you get a 6.8-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with Vision Booster, 1750 nits of peak brightness, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Like the rest of the Galaxy S23 series, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s most powerful smartphone chip to date, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, delivering a 33% improvement in CPU performance, 45% in GPU performance, 48% in NPU performance, and 15% improved efficiency compared to last gen.
You also get up to 12GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a larger vapor chamber cooling system for improved thermals.
For optics, the Galaxy S23 Ultra gets an upgrade to a 200MP sensor for its main camera which works alongside a 12MP ultra-wide unit, and two 10MP telephoto lenses that offer improved clarity when zoomed in. You also get improved Night Selfies and Night Portraits, as well as 8K 30 fps video recording.
The device runs the latest version of One UI 5.1 on top of Android 13 which offers more granular personalization, as well as smart suggestions, and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired fast-charging, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and Wireless PowerShare.
